SCHEDULE Berlin Fashion Week January/February 2025

Another Step Forward Towards Inclusivity, Sustainability, and Emerging Talents

After the start of the year with events like Pitti Uomo and men’s fashion, the fashion month continues with an unmissable event: Berlin Fashion Week 2025, which will take place from Friday, January 31 to Monday, February 3.

In less than twenty years, Berlin Fashion Week has managed to become a constantly fresh event capable of showcasing new talents. Every year, the event stands out for its ability to innovate and reflect contemporary social and cultural changes. With 150 designers involved in this edition, Berlin Fashion Week 2025 promises to offer a unique experience filled with stimulating content, exclusive runway shows, and new proposals.

The event will take place in several prestigious locations in the city, including Station Berlin, Kronprinzenpalais, Verti Music Hall, Alte Münze, and many more. These venues evoke the history and creative energy of the German capital, creating an ideal environment for the meeting of tradition and innovation.

The Support of Institutions

A fundamental aspect of the success of Berlin Fashion Week is linked to continuous investment and support from institutions. Until 2022, Mercedes Benz was one of the main sponsors, but since 2022, the Fashion Council Germany has been created to organize the event. Additionally, the German state allocated an investment of €180,000, with an additional €4 million planned for the coming years. This support has allowed Berlin Fashion Week to gain increasing international relevance, placing it on par with established events like those in New York, Milan, Paris, and London.

Berlin, with its dynamic energy, is increasingly recognized as a European capital buzzing with design and fashion. Its strength lies in its ability to look toward the future with optimism, promoting creativity and inclusivity, elements that define the essence of the city. Berlin’s DNA is made of leather jackets, electronic music, and much more, but its identity goes far beyond these stereotypes, representing a continuous evolution toward an innovative future.

Berlin Fashion Week will conclude with a closing party on Monday, February 3, 2025, in collaboration with Berliner Sparkasse, adding a touch of class to an event that has already been very successful among participants and the public.

Inclusion, Freedom, and Creativity: The Ingredients of Berlin Fashion Week 2025

This edition of Berlin Fashion Week will focus on the themes of inclusion, sustainability, and support for emerging talents. Unlike many other fashion cities like Milan and Paris, which still have a long way to go to be truly inclusive, Berlin has placed these issues at the heart of its event. For the first time, Berlin Fashion Week 2025 has awarded two emerging brands: one from Africa, of Ghanaian origin, and one from Ukraine. These brands received a €25,000 cash prize each, recognizing their potential and their ability to positively influence the international fashion scene.

Additionally, the FCG/VOGUE Fashion Fund has awarded a German designer, Kasia Kucharska, known for her innovative use of biodegradable latex in her creations. The prize, which includes €25,000, communication services, and a mentoring program with industry experts, will allow Kucharska to explore topics like collection development, branding, and production, culminating in the presentation of her new collection at Berlin Fashion Week in February 2025.

Sustainability and Pragmatism: A Pioneering Approach

Another key aspect of Berlin Fashion Week 2025 is the strong focus on sustainability. The pilot phase of the Sustainability Requirements has been introduced, imposing for the first time binding obligations on participating brands regarding transparency, traceability, and sustainable development. Brands will be evaluated by an independent agency, and based on the results, a sustainability score will be assigned. Furthermore, Berlin Fashion Week has started a collaboration with Copenhagen Fashion Week to promote sustainability requirements throughout the fashion industry, with the support of the Berlin Senate for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Public Enterprises.

Participating brands will need to complete a questionnaire of about 100 questions on sustainability requirements, which will be reviewed by Studio MM04, an independent agency. This process will highlight transparency and environmental commitment, in line with the German Supply Chain Act. Additionally, Berlin Fashion Week 2025 will introduce a Code of Conduct that emphasizes the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) in the fashion industry.

Fashion Takes Over the City: The Studio2Retail Project

Berlin Fashion Week 2025 also includes the Studio2Retail project, which offers small and large labels the opportunity to present their collections and concepts to a wide audience. This program is supported by the public system and includes five €5,000 cash prizes, with a sixth prize sponsored by Berliner Sparkasse.

The awarded brands include Balletshofer, Buki Akomolafe & EMEKA Suits, H6, Kitschy Couture, Ottolinger, and MAHORDE. These brands are ready to shine on the international fashion scene.

The Intervention Format: A Step Forward

The Intervention format, created in February 2024 and curated by Reference Studios, will also offer an exclusive opportunity for the most innovative brands this year.

LUEDER and Kasia Kucharska, along with two other brands, will participate in this unique runway show, representing an evolution of the traditional catwalk. Details regarding the location and format will be announced shortly, once again confirming Berlin’s commitment to continuously innovate in the fashion world.

In conclusion, Berlin Fashion Week 2025 confirms itself as an unmissable event for professionals and fashion enthusiasts, an event that puts innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability at the center and continues to grow, securing a prominent position in the international fashion scene.
