The four installations of Salone del Mobile 2025

Pierre-Yves Rochon. Villa Héritage – A Timeless Dialogue Between Art and Design

LOCATION: “A Luxury Way” Pavilions 13 and 15, Rho Fiera Milano

Villa Héritage by Pierre-Yves Rochon, part of A Luxury Way (Pavilions 13 and 15), is an immersive installation that redefines the relationship between heritage and contemporary design. Inspired by Luchino Visconti’s Venice, Gustav Mahler’s music, and 19th-century glasshouses, it transforms space into a sensory experience where history and innovation converge.

Each room explores a unique theme: the Drawing Room (Red) evokes opera’s theatricality with deep red hues and a La Traviata costume by Visconti, recreated by Accademia della Scala students. Dining Room (Blue) reflects global influences, featuring a 17th-century Flemish tapestry and Chinoiserie motifs. Library (Plum) highlights craftsmanship with atelier sketches and another La Traviata costume by Lila De Nobili.

TBathroom plays with perception through mirrored walls by Arte Veneziana, while the Bedroom (White) blends cinematic and musical elements, with Mahler’s Adagio enriching the atmosphere. Winter Garden merges architecture and nature, showcasing Murano glass and contemporary textiles. At the heart of the installation, the Music Room features an Alpange piano, offering exclusive live performances.

Villa Héritage is more than an exhibition—it’s a tribute to timeless design, where art, light, and materials shape an unforgettable experience.

Paolo Sorrentino. La Dolce Attesa – The Art of Waiting

LOCATION: Pavilions 22-24, Rho Fiera Milano

Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino presents La Dolce Attesa at the 2025 Salone (Pavilions 22-24), an immersive installation that transforms the concept of waiting into a sensory and emotional journey. Designed with scenographer Margherita Palli and enriched by Max Casacci’s hypnotic soundscape, the space reimagines the traditional waiting room, turning it from a place of anxiety into one of introspection and fluid movement.

Sorrentino explores the dual nature of waiting—one restless, one contemplative—through a dreamlike environment. Rocking shell-like armchairs evoke childhood rides, while soft lights and translucent glass create a surreal limbo where time stretches and contracts. At its core, a hidden, pulsating heart—a metaphor for life’s silent rhythm—emerges through frosted reflections.

Margherita Palli’s scenography embraces theatrical storytelling, using ephemeral structures and symbolic elements to redefine space. Meanwhile, Max Casacci’s soundscape, crafted from natural and environmental sounds, creates a rhythmic pulse that mirrors the emotional depth of waiting.

In a world obsessed with immediacy, La Dolce Attesa invites visitors to embrace waiting as a moment of transformation—where time is not lost but lived.

Es Devlin. Library of Light – A Beacon of Knowledge

LOCATION: Cortile d’Onore, Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan

Library of Light by Es Devlin is an immersive installation at the 2025 Salone del Mobile, created in collaboration with the Pinacoteca di Brera and with the contribution of Feltrinelli. This monumental work transforms the Cortile d’Onore into a luminous library, where light becomes a metaphor for knowledge, bridging past and future, tradition and innovation.

At the heart of the installation is an 18-meter circular structure of illuminated bookshelves, rotating like a compass and acting as a symbolic sundial. By day, mirrored surfaces direct sunlight onto previously unlit areas of the courtyard; by night, the installation casts dynamic shadows, reshaping the perception of space.

Inspired by mathematician Maria Gaetana Agnesi, the installation pays tribute to female thinkers often overlooked in history. Visitors experience Library of Light as a living space—where readings, performances, and interactive displays merge literature, sound, and technology. The voices of Es Devlin and Benedict Cumberbatch bring to life texts by physicist Carlo Rovelli, while over 2,000 books from Feltrinelli enrich the installation, allowing visitors to engage, donate, and expand this collective archive.

A true gift to Milan, Library of Light is not just an artistic statement but a dynamic space of dialogue and cultural exchange, where knowledge illuminates the present and guides the future.

Robert Wilson. Mother – A Dialogue of Light, Art, and Music

LOCATION: Museo della Pietà Rondanini, Castello Sforzesco, Milan

Renowned artist and director Robert Wilson will inaugurate Salone 2025 with Mother, an immersive light and sound installation at the Museo della Pietà Rondanini – Castello Sforzesco. In collaboration with the Municipality of Milan | Cultura, this extraordinary project will be open to the public from April 6th to May 18th, bridging Milan Design Week and Milano Art Week.

Wilson’s work engages in a poetic dialogue with Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini, one of Milan’s most iconic masterpieces. Rooted in the concept of the “unfinished,” Mother explores the tension between matter and thought, stillness and transformation. The installation is shaped by light—Wilson’s primary artistic medium—and set to the meditative Stabat Mater by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, creating a space where sound and silence merge.

“Light is the measure of all things,” says Wilson. “When I first saw Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini, I felt its immense energy, an almost mystical presence. Its unfinished state makes it even more extraordinary—like an open window between the visible and the invisible.”

Not a mere scenography, Mother is an invitation to contemplation, a 30-minute sequence of music, light, and images that envelops the viewer in a deeply introspective experience. From April 6th to 13th, the Stabat Mater will be performed live by Vox Clamantis (conducted by Jaan-Eick Tulve) and La Risonanza (conducted by Fabio Bonizzoni), further amplifying the installation’s immersive power.

By embracing structured silences and vibrant expectations, Mother transforms the museum into a breathing space—where art becomes light, music becomes architecture, and time dissolves into pure emotion.
